Taiwan-UK Joint Hybrid Seminar Session 2
Unveiling the Future of Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC)
Date: September 30, 2025
Time: 16:00 - 18:00
Venue: EC2002, College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Building
The second session of the Taiwan-UK Joint Hybrid Seminar was successfully held on September 30, 2025. This session featured two distinguished experts: Prof. Lie-Liang Yang from the University of Southampton, UK, and Prof. Tzyy-Sheng Horng from the 6G Communication and Sensing Research Center, who shared their latest research and insights in the field of Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC).
Topic 1: ISAC-Fundamentals and Communication-Based Sensing
Prof. Lie-Liang Yang initiated the session by laying out the fundamental theories of ISAC, guiding the audience through the design principles for both communication and sensing systems. He then transitioned to presenting his team's practical measurement experiences and detailed the design of ISAC sensing systems incorporating novel modulation schemes such as Index Modulation and OTFS.
Topic 2: Enabling ISAC with 4D MIMO Radar Technologies
Prof. Tzyy-Sheng Horng took the stage, starting with the 6G vision, and introduced the requirements and challenges for various sensing scenarios in 6G systems. He provided a systematic overview of the three ISAC platforms developed by his research group, showcasing their performance through real-world measurement videos. Furthermore, Prof. Horng offered an outlook on the recent ISAC technology development trends his team plans to pursue.
Following the presentations, both professors engaged in a lively discussion regarding the challenges in ISAC technology development, particularly focusing on the benefits and challenges of multipath effects in both communication and sensing environments. The event concluded successfully amidst the enthusiastic atmosphere generated by the engaging talks and stimulating Q&A session.
