Social Contribution
Participation in the Development of Local Industries in the Kaohsiung-Pingtung Region
Traditional manufacturing and agriculture, the main industries in southern Taiwan, faced industrial transformation and upgrading challenges in recent years. Our 6G Center uses academic resources and technical capabilities, collaborating with the Southern Taiwan Industry Promotion Center (STIPC, https://www.stipc.org/tw/), NSYSU, actively participating in the digital transformation and upgrading of southern industries, and referring resources to local governments. We jointly promote the traditional industries’ digital transformation and the emerging industries' local development.
Our collaboration with STIPC focuses on educating digital communication talent and promotes industry-academia innovation and research, driving local industrial development. For example, since 2014, Prof. Kin-Lu Wong has been hosting the Communication Antenna Design Competition for ten consecutive years, gaining support from 13 leading companies and accumulating corporate sponsorships of NT$24.35 million, resulting in 1,182 antenna professionals entering the ICT industry. Additionally, we have co-hosted several industry-government-academia-research forums and presentations, such as the "The Seminar for the Future of 5G+ Antenna Field" at the National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT), inviting officials from the Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, academic experts, and representatives from well-known companies to discuss key issues such as new product development trends, industry needs, and educating talent.
Since the high demand for talent in the ICT industry and the challenge of declining birth rates in recent years, both schools and industries are facing a talent shortage problem. To address this issue, we collaborated with STIPC to assist the Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in promoting the Overseas Talent Recruitment Program for enterprises. We established the “Foreign Talent Matching Platform,” actively organizing Southeast Asian semiconductor talent recruitment events. This project also collaborated with STIPC to actively introduce government project resources into the southern region.
This project also participated in various industrial development-related issues in the southern region, including educating talent, hosting forums/presentations, and introducing technology. By participating in industry-government-academia-research activities, we can gain a more comprehensive understanding of academic research and industry development trends, obtain the latest government support resources, build industry development networks, and collaborate with local governments to promote regional industrial development, achieving long-term growth and sustainable development.
Communication Antenna System Design Competition
Co-organizing the 2023 Mobileheroes (National Communication Competition - Communication Antenna System Design Competition) hosted by the Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (Figure 14, https://mobilehero.com/zh-Hant/antenna), long-term dedicated to educating the talent of communication antenna design: NSYSU's Antenna Laboratory participated as a co-organizer, and the team members hosted by the Southern Taiwan Industry Promotion Center, (STIPC, https://www.stipc.org/tw/), were the executing team for the antenna competition. Prof. Kin-Lu Wong, one of the team members, also served as the convener of the judging panel for the antenna competition, assisting in planning the competition themes and securing corporate sponsorships to educate the talent in antennas for Taiwan's communication industry.

Educating Female Technology Talent
To inspire more female talent to engage in scientific research, Associate Prof. Wan-Jen Huang participated in the 2023 STEM Exemplary Learning—Female Technology Talent Educating Program series of lectures. Additionally, NSYSU held a “Female Scientist Lab Visit and Hands-On Experience Camp” for high school students nationwide on July 5, 2023. The Communication Technology Lab and the Liquid Crystal Optoelectronic Components Lab in our 6G Center were also opened to the participating students. Through visits and hands-on experiences, we hope to inspire female students' passion and interest in scientific research.
Committee Membership and Society Promotion
Several team members of our 6G Center actively participate in various social service work. Nine professors served as speakers at international conferences, editors and associate editors of international journals, chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and committee members of academic societies/associations, demonstrating their contribution and commitment to society while actively promoting academic knowledge and international exchanges.
