➠<International Collaborations> Green AI Master Series Lectures - Speaker: Prof. Chung-Chieh(Jay) Kuo
Date:2025/10/20 (一)
Time:14:30-16:30
Venue:EC2002
Topic:Artificial Intelligence: Deep Learning versus Green Learning
On October 20, 2025, our 6G Communication and Sensing Research Center was pleased to host Prof. Jay Kuo, Ming Hsieh Chair Professor and Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Southern California (USC), for an insightful lecture on "Artificial Intelligence: Deep Learning versus Green Learning.
During the lecture, Prof. Kuo addressed two major challenges facing current AI, which has developed rapidly over the last decade. He explained that current AI systems rely heavily on massive training data, essentially establishing a data-fitting solution to capture the mapping between inputs and outputs.
Prof. Kuo then introduced the two primary data-fitting solution: Deep Learning (DL) and Green Learning (GL). He pointed out that while DL is the mainstream approach today, it is neither interpretable nor sustainable.
Therefore, Prof. Kuo shared his research on GL models, which he has been developing since 2015, as an alternative, interpretable, and sustainable AI. He demonstrated how GL models can provide energy-efficient AI solutions for cloud and edge devices, using several medical imaging examples to highlight the significant differences between the DL and GL approaches.

6G Communication and Sensing Research Center was pleased to host Prof. Jay Kuo President Li of National Sun Yat-sen University emphasized the importance of AI for future technologic.

Prof. Kuo shared the differences between Deep Learning and Green Learning, and engaged in an academic exchange with the attending faculty and students.
